A little smile

As David says : "In Africa you never know what you will get..."
My son-in-law, Mat, sent me this little clip today -- and as we have been surrounded by all sorts of African wild beasts, red and otherwise, these past few days, I thought I would share the smile with my readers! Enjoy!

Evan van der Spuy goes from bike racer to "that guy that got hit by a deer on YouTube (click on YouTube to see the clip)

SOMEONE tell Evan van der Spuy that African wildebeest don't always use the zebra crossing.
Actually, don't - he's already learnt the hard way.

And if he hasn't, he will after every second person on the planet tunes into YouTube today to watch him get taken out by a red hartebeest while riding in a race near Albert Falls in KwaZulu, South Africa.

"Watch the buck!", his teammate calls, just in time for van der Spuy to throw an arm out.

Needless to say, to no avail - red hartebeest can weigh up to 150kg and this one was fairly clipping along.

Result? A shattered helmet, a "stiff neck" and instant YouTube celebrity status.

At least he had the grace to thank his mate for his mad camera skills,,,

We have seen so many hartebeest on this trip -- I have always regarded them as a 'special sighting' but here they are in abundance. However, after this story, I suppose we will have to include them in the animals that we have to be wary of -- like the mamma-elephants with babies, the rhino-mammas with babies...
